In the first quarter of 2022, Facebook was the most widely used online social network in the world, with around 2.93 billion users worldwide, according to Statista. Facebook is even the first platform on which American users spent the most time per day in 2021.
The social media site has become a hub for users to communicate with family, friends and colleagues. However, with so many users on the platform, it could be easy for anyone to find your account.
If you want to keep your account secure, here’s how to make yourself as private as possible on Facebook.

How to Make Facebook Private
There are several options for privacy and who can see your Facebook profile and posts, including:
Audience: “Anyone on or off Facebook.”
Friends: “Your friends on Facebook.”
Friends except: “Do not show certain friends.”
Specific friends: “Show only certain friends.”
If you want to change your privacy settings on Facebook, on a computer, select your account icon and go to the “Settings & Privacy” option. Select “Settings”, then “Privacy”.
From there, you can choose which of your content is visible to whom. You can edit your activity to see who can see your future posts, who can see the people, pages, and lists you follow, and who can see your friends lists, among other options.
To edit the privacy settings, select “Edit” to the right of the option and choose the privacy option from the drop-down menu of who can see.

How do I remove my Facebook from search engines?
To prevent your Facebook account from appearing on search engines (such as Google or Yahoo) outside of Facebook, go to your “Settings & Privacy” on a computer and select “Settings” then “Privacy”.
Scroll down to the “How people can find and contact you” subsection. Go to the ‘Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile’ option and select ‘Edit’.
If this option is left enabled, “search engines may link to your profile in their results,” Facebook explains. If this setting is disabled, search engines will stop linking your account. However, your profile can still be found through Facebook search.
Uncheck the box next to “Allow search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile” to confirm removal of your profile from search engines.
